DARNING WORKSHOP 10TH JUNE 5.30PM-8PM
We return to Hackney Road as part of Handmade Stories' June pop-up to offer an evening of mending at our darning workshop.
At Socko, we're on a mission to re-teach the lost art of darning. This is because the most sustainable clothes are the ones we already own. If we can extend the lives of the things we own and embrace a more conscious consumer mindset, we will have a positive effect on people and our planet.
Not to mention that darning is highly therapeutic, rewarding and is a commitment of care that brings us closer to our possessions. It's also a must-have skill for any esteemed knitter.
During this 2.5 hour workshop, we start with a brief history of techniques from different cultures and look at examples and tools. The majority of the time will then be practical as Socko founder Emma teaches you how to create a sturdy and beautiful mend.
The session will be fuelled by the obligatory bottomless biscuit tin and probably something a little stronger - it is Friday evening after all!
Groups are kept small so that everyone gets enough one-to-one attention. There will be plenty of material to work on but please do bring any holey knitwear of your own that you would like advice on.
